Homemaking Mondays: Obedient To Your Own Husbands

Welcome to Homemaking Mondays!

Today I'd lik to share with you about being obedient to your own husbands.

Titus 2:5

This isn't talked about much in the world today.  Mostly it's partnerships, and being equal.
Pride says I don't want to be obedient! but to do what is right in our own eyes.
Does having your own role and being subject to your husband mean
that you're of lesser value then he? No.
Pride says...I'm my own boss.  It sets one up as a god....calling the shots.
Feminism has infiltrated the very basis of marriages as well.
Feminism sets up women as superior to men.
You think that's far fetched?  I don't.

I have read many times in homemaking blogs, and heard in conversations among women, that woman are just as good or better at making decisions around the home/ finances so the men just need to move aside and let them do it.  Then we tell them what we want, and they pay for it.
Yes, there are areas that we as women have room for making decisions...and in each marriage that needs to be decided between the husband and the wife.
We are not to "tell" our husbands anything.
That is disrespectful to them and their place in the home and marriage.
We're not in charge of them.
In fact we are to be subject to them...yes submissive, & yes obedient.
We were made a help meet for them, not them for us.

Genesis 2:18
What does obedience mean?

OBE'DIENCE, noun [Latin obedientia.]- Webster's 1828 Dictionary
Compliance with a command, prohibition or known law and rule of duty prescribed; the performance of what is required or enjoined by authority, or the abstaining from what is prohibited, in compliance with the command or prohibition. To constitute obedience the act or forbearance to act must be in submission to authority; the command must be known to the person, and his compliance must be in consequence of it, or it is not obedience obedience is not synonymous with obsequiousness; the latter often implying meanness or servility, and obedience being merely a proper submission to authority. That which duty requires implies dignity of conduct rather than servility. obedience may be voluntary or involuntary. Voluntary obedience alone can be acceptable to God.
As the head of the home he is in charge, and we are subject to our husbands.
Does this mean they're the king and tell us what to do and how to do it?  No. They do have the right to ask us to do things (and yes even in a certain way).  We don't need to always want to  or like to do what they ask, but we need to follow through and do it.
They don't just sit around while we do everything.
They have their own role and responsibilities.
We are to obey our husbands with love as unto the Lord.
Obedience is part of submission in the home, and it's a beautiful thing.
There is peace when there is order, and order in our place in the home is just as important as order in the cleanliness of our homes.
When there is a question, go to your husband, give your input and then leave it for him to decide.  Each family will be different, as each couple will have decidedly different areas of responsibility of decision making.  For example, some husbands would rather their wives pay the bills as they come in.  Perhaps the husband will want to make the decisions on what the activities the kids are involved in.

Above all we need to realize that obedience in the home is natural and normal. The wife toward her husband and the children toward their parents.   The world rebells against submission and obedience.  Let us women give our children and those that are around our families the example of what God has ordained...not what the world finds socially acceptable.

Love and Prayers,
Jennifer

Loving Our Fall Hikes

Hello!  I must say we are loving our fall hikes.
So much colour and I love the smells.

Above is one road we go along, and the mountain at the end just has sunshine on it in this picture...while the rest of the area was shrouded in cloud and rain.  That was then, and now there is dustings of snow up there!!!

One part of our families homeschooling is time in the outdoors.
A place to see God's beautiful creation, and to get some exercise.

Beautiful foliage on trees and shrubs alike.

Below was a tree that was rotting out and looked cool.

Then we found a stump that reminded us of a toilet. :)  No, we didn't try it out.

We walked down to a nice little pond/ marsh area.  Lots of muskeg around it so not too safe to get too close.

I found this prickly rose bush in a myriad of fall colour.

We found an old tree has fallen partly across one of our beloved trails..but we can still get by and won't saw it yet.

We found this cool nesting cavity in it and wondered if a bird would still use it so close to the ground.

Love this sandy beach along the riverside.  As you walked across it you could feel the air pockets under the top layer giving out.

We have found lots of cranberries that are now ripe for picking...and eating along the trail in our case.  We'll go out picking another day.

We also found lots of beautifully coloured blueberry bushes and a few berries here and there.  We never got to have a good picking this year as there were hardly any berries to be had.

I love the rocks along the river beaches, so many colours and shapes.  We collected driftwood to make into a wind chime.

It was interesting to see areas of the evident high water that we've had especially this year.  Now that the water is low there are pockets of bushes wrapped in driftwood and debris.

It's fun to see animal tracks.  This one below from a moose. It's hard to see from the picture, but it's actually very big.

Another little alcove beach along the riverside.  This one we walked all over in bare feet.

Here my kids are off into the trees again.  Bushwhacking a trail back to the road.

Along the way we found a fallen tree caught by the other trees around it.  I'm thankful my boys didn't decide to climb this one.

A little sunlit patch in the forest.

My son found this big chunk of amber tree sap and brought it home.

Do you love to walk in the woods?  Do you find treasures that you bring home?

Thank you for dropping by!  I hope you have a wonderful day!

In the Details of Fall Beauty!

Hello!  Just popping in for a bit to share some of the fall beauty that we've been seeing this week.

I've been busy getting ready for our school lessons to begin.  Finishing up some summer projects and getting ready for winter. We'll be ordering some firewood soon, and we had to get the woodshed ready.

Our garden is finished, and most of our flowers are finished as well.

We are enjoying the beautiful colour that is coming out in the trees and vegetation.

The berries are starting to all ripen and you can see the colour popping up from the forest floor.

This is one of our favourite spots to go to on our river.  The river curves around and leaves this one area with lots of sand and "warmer" puddles.

My kids were wading around the last couple days...but I myself like to stay in the warm sand. :)

The sand was warm and deep and perfect for digging ones' toes into.

There were a myriad of little tiny mushrooms in the sand amongst the horsetail.

We found a new nest that was up in one of the spruce trees close to the water's edge.

The fireweed is just coming out in gorgeous colour!

The wild roses are changing into lovely yellows and oranges as well.

While down by the river my kids found these interesting creatures.  They were in these little pyramid type things pointed out into the stream of water.  The girls took a couple out and after a bit these creatures started to climb out of them.  They didn't bite or anything, but I think they're kinda creepy looking!  Something we'll be looking up.

*we looked it up and couldn't find anything and then sweet Wendy wrote me about the caddisflies she's seen, and they must be some of these.  They make their homes out of what they find in the environment around them. The ones in our river have a pyramid shape.   Very interesting!

Then as we were walking home through the forest the last time, I noticed this cool outcropping of fungi on a log beside the trail.  SO many little details that have us stopping and pondering.

Thank you for dropping by!  It's nice to be able to share with others some of the things I find interesting in life.

I find that there is so much to learn and enjoy around us, that often gets missed in busyness.  Lets slow down in life to see the details that God has created.

Blueberry Jam and Sweet Relish

Hello!  Thanks for dropping by!

Today I would love to share with you the jam and sweet pickle relish I made.

Starting with the relish, I grated up some cucumbers that I was given by a neighbour, some sweet bell peppers, and some local grown onions.  I sprinkled them with salt and let them sit for a couple hours.

Then after I rinsed and drained them I made the brine.

I then dumped all the mixture into the brine and cooked it down.

Then I filled some jars and set them into the water bath canner for the prescribed time.

I saved out a tiny bit that wouldn't fit in the jars to just eat right away...yum!

Then while those jars were in the canner I started on the blueberries.  I had a bit of help from my son to help "smash" the berries.  I don't have a potato masher, but this meat tenderizer works good to.

Then into the pot with pectin and later sugar.

I love the part of filling the jars.  I invested in a metal canning funnel and it is so very useful for canning and many other things around the kitchen!

Then of course the happy sounds of pinging lids as they all come out of the canner!

Have you been preserving food?  It is a fun thing for me to do and is very much worth the extra effort.  Plus it frees up freezer space.

I hope you are having a wonderful day!

What Went On In My Kitchen This Day

Hello!  Nice to see you!  Have you been harvesting anything from your garden?

Today was bittersweet.  We pulled the last of the produce from our garden today.  As you can see it's the carrots.  Fall is upon us here in the Yukon and with school lessons beginning soon I thought it best to have the garden taken care of prior as to lessen any stress with that.

As you can see, they're all kinda tiny. LOL  It was not the best year for carrots, but they are still packed with delicious nutrition.  Sometimes I get discouraged as to the lack of growth, but find joy in that it is something that I can offer my family that one cannot buy at the store up here.

They're all de-greened and washed and tucked into freezer bags now.  They are all in the fridge, for they are always best eaten that way...well in my opinion that is.

It took a bit of giggling, but I got them all in there. ~smiles~

Today I also started some yogurt that Lord willing will be finished up tomorrow morning.  It is now in jars in a roaster in my oven wrapped in a big towel.  No fancy yogurt machine in this house.

We like to mix some homemade jam in our yogurt or add it to smoothies.

I also with the help of my son made a batch of butter.  I love having my Bosch as it makes the process go much smoother.

Then my daughter had cookies cooking in our roaster oven.  Our regular oven isn't working and the Lord blessed us with this one in it's stead.

She also made chocolate drop cookies (stove top version) so our cookie jars are full for a bit.

SO we have had a full and productive day.  It's nice to be able to look back on the day and see the home productive and nourishing the ones that live within it's walls.  God is good!
