Homemaking Mondays: Down Comes the Snow

Hello!
This past week the snow has been coming down.
Big fluffies to the tiny sandblasting kind of snow.

It has been consistently snowing and it's building up.
The kids have been doing lots of shovelling and are trying to keep up on it
so it doesn't become an overwhelming task.

Today the sun has come out and even though there are lots of snow clouds
it's absolutely wonderful!
It's nice to have a break in the snow for now.
I just want to stand in the window and soak it all in.

You may say we don't have much...but for us in a semi-arid land...it's about right.
Much of the snow is dry and tiny.
It makes for good hard packed drifts when the wind gets to blowing.

This week it's been a bit busier.
We've been out sledding with friends,
enjoying a cooking class at the community centre (spanish food),
snowshoeing and working around the yard.
Well....I've been tagging along for some of these things, but I'm not doing
that much still.  I have been on my feet more...
and have learned that isn't so good yet.

I did finish the socks for my kitchen chairs.
That inspired my one daughter to make some for her desk chair in her room.

I've been writing some letters.
Now I need to be making some more cards.
It's wonderful to be able to still enjoy some happy mail in the mailbox.
I love being able to tuck letters into the mail-slot destined for others.
Good things to do on snowy days.

What do you like to do on snowy days?

Thanks for dropping by!
Love and Prayers,
Jennifer

Crocheted Snowflakes

Hello!  Welcome to my blog today!  Thanks for dropping by!

Today I have some crocheted snowflakes to share with you.

Our snow has been melting a lot outside and as I looked at our snowmen displayed on the bookshelf it looked like they needed something to compliment them.

We enjoy winter up here in the Yukon, and this is just a fun addition.

I bought some new white cotton thread, pulled out my tiny needle (#7 Milward) and got to work.
There are a ton of wonderful snowflake patterns on Pinterest, but I chose just a few.

Then I hung up the snowflakes above the snowmen,
using fishline and a random branch I got from by the wood shed.

I pulled out a couple of these cool non-marking hangers and stuck them to the log.
The branch set in the hooks nicely.

One thing to remember when tying fishline is to put the line through the loop twice before pulling tight.  I suppose if I were a fisherwoman I'd know how to do it without thinking.

They make a fun new addition to the hall and our snowmen display.

It's amazing that these dainty little snowflakes don't take a huge amount of time to create.
I know that you can block them, glue them and other things, but I for some reason like the softness of them just like this. I did smooth them out with my fingers.

Thank you for dropping by, and when you have time,
just think about the amazing detail that God has created in each and every snowflake.
Such a great God he is!

A Winter's Day

A Winter's Day!

Sometimes one just has to go for a walk on a winter's day.
The soft light of the lowering sun, the glitter of snow diamonds all around and the sound of the gurgling river draw you out to adventure.

My boys leading the way down to the river from our place.
The girls and our dog Sophie following after.

The river is slowly freezing, adding layer upon layer of overflow as it extends up and over the banks in places.  The beautiful green colour vibrant against the white snow and dark green of the evergreens.

With the overflow come beautiful little bits of frost over the slushy parts.

Beautiful ripples have formed and decorate the iced over parts where the snow has yet to fall.

I love the frost that covered much of the vegetation around the rivers edge as the moisture rising causes fog and frost to gather.
Kind of like little fluffy coats.

I love all the patterns the frost makes, and the wonderful little delicate crystals that God has created!
What an amazing God he is to create so many details for us to enjoy!
Many say this is just science..but oh no!  This does not come about just by chance.
There is a creator, and I praise Him for His wondrous works!

Thank you for dropping by!  Perhaps you will also go on a winter's walk on a cold winter's day.
Enjoy the details and take a moment to thank the Lord for His goodness!

Snowman Family

Hello Friends!  Today I'd like to share with you my snowman family.  We had a homeschooling get together to make a craft and the kids made these cool sock snowmen.  I thought they were so cute that I made one for my husband and I as well.  Now the family is complete. :)

I found some ladies socks without the ribbing although it wouldn't matter I'm sure and then followed the instructions on the video.  The idea of using pins for the eyes and nose was a bit dangerous with kids so we just had them decorate them as they saw fit.   Here is the link to the video that inspired them. HERE!

I thought that my new snowman would be a good profile picture to. :)
Hope you all are enjoying the winter and the many beautiful things that God has created!  The snow and frost on the trees here where I live is so lovely and brightens up the outside world.

A Couple Cute Snowman Cards

Hello Friends!  Today I have something a bit different to share with you.  This week From the Heart Stamps put out this very adorable little snowman stamp set and it was on sale at the store HERE for just $1.00.  So I had to grab it.  It's very fun to colour up and every time I see it I smile. :)
With having a new one of Faith's images I also wanted to play along in one of the challenges on the FTHS blog.  It's a sketch challenge with a twist.  So I followed the sketch and added the twist which was stitching.  It's a bit hard to see in the pic, but you can click on it and see it bigger if you'd like to.
I used my Spectrum Noir markers to colour with and I used My Mind's Eye papers as well.

Since it was so fun to play with I made another card right afterwards.  I had printed out a few of these sweet snowmen in two different sizes.  For this card below I also coloured the image with my Spectrum Noir markers and used My Mind's Eye papers and pre-made card base.

Thanks for dropping by to see me. :)  It was nice to play with paper again.
Praying you have a beautiful day!

This week there is a challenge going of over at the A Day for Daisies blog and it is to use this adorable snowman- Snowball Scott! Yes, since I love snowmen, I couldn't pass this up.
I've coloured him up with my pencil crayons and added some frosty sides with my decorative scissors.  The paper is from Recollections and the "snowflake sparkles" are Forever in Time rhinestones.  The foam snowflakes are from my collection to.  Then, for the delightful tickets, it is from Scribbles Designs and can be found HERE!

Need a Mitten?

Hello Everyone! Are you enjoying a snowy day? We sure are. I love building snowmen and this image is totally fitting with my mood today!
This image is called Mittens and is new over at Designed 2 Delight.  Looks like they've found all the mittens the children have lost while out enjoying the snow!  How thoughtful of them to display them so they can be claimed!
I've kept the layout simple and used papers from Recollections and some bronze pearls from Forever in Time.
Do bundle up and enjoy some of the snowflakes, even if it's just for a few minutes then come inside and enjoy some yummy hot chocolate to warm up!
I'm sharing this card at For Fun Challenges this week. Come join in the Buurrr your cold or Yikes your hot challenge.

Snow Much Love!

Today I would like to share a card with you that I've made with a new image from Designed 2 Delight! Is't this wonderful - Snow Much Love it's called.  I've coloured it with markers and matted it to some bright orange cardstock from Recollections.  The patterned paper is from Paper Reflections.  I wanted to add a snowflake, but thought that this little white flower I made might be a good substitute (soft and fluffy) tied on with some orange satin ribbon.  I saw this sentiment on Pinterest and thought it perfect (although I can't for the life of me find who it was from -and yes, I forgot to write it down initially).  The rhinestones are just to add a touch of sparkle!
Hope you're all enjoying the day!  Find someone to hold onto and have a snuggle!

Do You Love Catching Snowflakes?

Hi Everyone! For my card I've coloured up this wonderful snowman with my pencil crayons and matted it to some navy cardstock.  I added this to some wonderful frosty paper from Recollections and added some ribbon from Kaiser Craft and a sentiment from Tina Wenke.

Are You Ready for Snow?

Are you ready for snow? I'm not but this guy sure is!  Love the look of confidence he has!  We had our first snow on September 10th, and it's been creeping down the mountains ever since!
Don't you just love this guy! I'd love to go skiing with him!  You can find Snowman Skier over at Designed 2 Delight's store HERE!
I also tried something new.  One of my K & Company papers is embossed with snowflakes and sanded down a bit. I really should have tried this before!  I used a sentiment that I found at TLC creations and couldn't resist it! It's Free!  I though it went perfectly with him!
Well, if you have snow, enjoy it! It might stay a long time! LOL
Have a great day!

Farewell For Fun

Here is a card I have to share with you as I wish farewell to For Fun Challenges.  This is their last challenge before they close.  The challenge is snowman.
I used this wonderful snowman image from Dearie Dolls and I've been wanting to use it! Such an adorable snowman helping his birdie friends do their laundry!  Here is a link to her blog (it's full of freebies!!!) due to the fact that her store is closed for the moment.
I used markers to get into those tiny places, matted it to some blue cardstock and cut the edges with my "rockies" decorative scissors. Then I added some fake snow to the snowflake dots and the branches/arms.  The paper is from Stampin' Up and cardstock from the Dollar Store.  The sentiment is TLC.  For a finishing touch I added these great felt snowflakes by Hero Arts.
I am sorry to hear they are leaving the scene, but I understand that changes need to be made.  I'm so glad that I've been able to join in the challenge up to now! Take care Helen!

A Little Bit of Winter

Hi Everyone! Here's a little bit of winter for you from the Yukon.  Our first major snow of the year - and  boy did I get my exercise!!!!!   My whole family helped! If I had to do it myself I'd probably still be out there! Our neighbor broke some ribs so we did his side to.  So here is part of our driveway and a view down our street. If it keeps snowing like this, the sliding hills will be awesome!

Seeing Dots

Today I have some dots for Jen's Digi Stamps Challenge -show us your Polka Dots.  Today the snow is falling and so I can relate to this wonderful digi.  Warm enough to go without a coat, but still needing your boots.  Yesterday the kids and I were out catching snowflakes with our tongues! Such a wonderful moment when you feel a snowflake land and melt on your tongue! Such a fun memory with the kids.
I added a bit of sparkle to the snowflakes and the green distressed border.  When the sun catches the frost for the first time in the morning, it's like a world of diamonds.
Supplies:
Stamps:  Jens Digi Stamps: snow girl freebie
Papers:  Stampin' Up and New Seasons
Tools: Decorative Sissors - Rocky Mountain
Accessories:  Orange and Green Braiding Cord; Green Button; Twinkles Writer- silver

Hello Snow!

Hello everyone, today is my first winter post.  It's inspired by the fact that it has started snowing here in the Yukon.
First we got a dusting of snow, just enough to get the kids excited, and then.....It really hit and is still coming down!
It's still snowing but is melting at the same time- sure is wet!  More is in the forecast!
So here is what I was inspired to create.  I took a digi from DDH's Bunch of Flakes set along with the sentiment from DDH's Hello Season's set.  I layered them on some fun blue papers and added some glitter to the snowflakes and the dark blue frame.  My kids love to investigate each snowflake to discover what makes them unique.  I added the bow because it was airy like snow falling and it reminds me of the pompoms on the kids's winter hats.
Supplies:
Stamps:  Digi Stamps from DDH Bunch of Flakes and Hello Season's sets
Papers:  ATD patterned papers and misc cardstock
Tools:  snowflake punch
Accessories:  Ribbon and DecoArt Twinkles Writer - silver
