Do you love apples? I do!
It's full-time and the MacIntosh apples are now in the stores.
They're my favourite for they are sweet and cook down so nice and soft.
No need for extra sugar with these.
We purchased a few pounds this week and plan to make a few different things with them.
This round I am making dehydrated apples.
We found this dehydrator at the free store this year and it works perfectly.
I found some inserts in a stores clearance section that I trimmed down to fit inside.
This way it'll be much easier to clean.
I set to pealing, coring, and slicing up the apples.
My boys helped lift each layer (we have five) and line up the apples on the trays.
I think they did great at their spacing!
Then we plugged it in on the counter top and waited....the fan came on and in a couple minutes there was warm air blowing out of the air vents on top. Oh the smell....yummo!
Above you can see the last of them getting a bit more drying time.
Below is the plate with our first batch of dehydrated apples.
We were all delighted with them!
What a treat to have this way of enjoying apples!
We used to use our electric oven, but now with a propane stove it's not possible to get the low heat option. We also have a wood stove for heating in the winter...we shall try drying apples on a rack behind the stove once it's on for the day.
Thank you so much for dropping by! Do share if you like dried apples, what you favourite apple is or your favourite way to prepare apples.
Praying you have a wonderful day!

I LOVE apples too! It's the only fruit I actually enjoy, and they're just perfect for so many things. You found a special kitchen gadget for the drying. I'm curious to know what you will use the dried apples for now. I once dried a bunch of apple slices and made a wreath of them. It was really cool. I just dried them on paper towels on top of cookie racks. It took a couple of weeks to dry.
My grandfather sold apples at market. A few years before Mom died, she suddenly gave each of us kids a few copper plates that he would mark the wooden crates for market. I'd never seen them before. There were MacIntosh, Northern Spies, Greenings, Russets, Red Delicious and a few others I can't remember. Personally I like Northern Spies for baking, and Cortlands for eating. A local farmer (of my parents') used to sell an old-fashioned one called Wealthy apples. They by far made the BEST apple pie I've ever had. I've never seen them anywhere else though, and they are a very early apple and gone quick.

I like apples and they taste good dehydrated. :)
My family loves dehydrated apples too, I hope you get lots of use out of your dehydrator. What a blessing to find it at a free store, we really love our dehydrator and use it a lot. I have dehydrated apples, carrots, celery, peppers, plums, strawberries ...really any kind of fruit is great. Bananas are awesome too ! Have a wonderful day!
I love apples too! Gala and Honey Crisps are my most favorite! But every once in awhile I do like a Granny Smith.
We dehydrate apples, peaches, strawberries, well just about anything really. Our dehydrator gets used often!
I make an apple jack (that's kinda like a large apple pie slab) yum!
As they say, "an apple a day, keeps the doctor away!" Smiles...
Have a great day Jennifer!
Hugs!
Hi Jennifer!!
I have always wanted to dry apples!! A lady we used to know would show up at our home in the middle of winter with the BEST hand apple pies made using her dehydrated apples. So SOOOOO yummy!!!
I haven't purchased a dehydrator, though. Guess I should look into that!!!
