Homemaking Mondays: New to You and Mending

Hello!
It's so wonderful when you can go to a free store
(a recycling part of the dump),
and find some treasures!
Same reason I love second hand stores and garage sales.
Things that one person doesn't need anymore,
that another person does.
Well...mostly does.
I have brought some unnecessary things home at times.

This past weekend I found some lovely odd sheets.
It is good for they compliment other sheets that we have
that are wearing out.
I like to find items that are around to re-use instead of always buying new.
It's a frugal thing, and a fun thing to.

I found this pair of mittens at the free store awhile back, and they have
started to wear out in spots.
I have learned to knit some so I decided to try making patches.

They work great and are very secure so I don't have to worry about them
coming apart.
Being able to mend items that you have is so important.
It saves you so much money to be able to fix little odd things.
Plus it makes what you do have more presentable.
I personally am not a fan of shabby things...when they need not be.

I also wanted to show off  a felt blanket that my son was making for his stuffed bear.
He sewed two sheets of felt together all the way around and then
cut out a tree and sewed it on the front.
It is so nice to see his stitches looking more even.
Such a good skill to have for those
little mending needs that we all have.

Below are all the sheets I found.
Two fitted and two flat.
I am not a great sheet folder...I must admit.
For me as long as they are clean, somewhat folded,
and tucked away in the linen closet
I'm happy. :)

Thanks for dropping by!
Praying you have a beautiful day!

Love and Prayers,
Jennifer

I enjoy being able to make do with used things also - thrift stores are always enjoyable to visit! We have a free rummage sale...well I guess it's not a sale since everything is free! Not sure what it's called :) near us that we have visited once recently. Trying to cut back on bringing too much stufd home, so probably should wait awhile to visit again, but it's nice to know we can go there if we have the need. :)
The mittens you mended look nice!

I love hunting for treasures at garage sales or thrift stores! I've scored some great teawares and linens in pristine conditions.

I love finding things for a good deal, or for free! My latest frugal find was an iron. I went to do a crafting project that required an iron and realized I didn't have one. (You can tell how often I iron...) So I ran to the local church's thrift store and found a perfectly good iron for $5!

Good job on folding those fitted sheets! I can't fold fitted sheets to save my life... ;)

First of all, how wonderful that your son knows how to sew!!!
Secondly, I'm all about reuse of things, too. The sheets complement each other. Match-e-match, new ones just don't have the style that you get when you create your own style. Good job!
