I Made A Blackboard!

Hello Friends! I've been having fun doing lots of things, but most are not yet completed.  One of the things I did over the winter break from our homeschool lessons was to make a chalkboard.  We had a whiteboard that was, well.....not erasing well anymore.  I hate throwing things out, so I thought I'd make a chalkboard with it.  Can you see any of the pictures my kids had made?

I washed the board off really well and after it dried, I put a layer of black acrylic paint on it.  I'm impatient so I used my heat gun to speed things along. :)  Then I mixed more of the black paint with some plaster of paris (Since I had that anyway, I didn't want to go out and by grout.).  Then I gave it two coats of that (using my heat gun to dry it inbetween).  I scrapped off the paint that had gone over with a wet wipe and voila! New blackboard.  I did let it sit overnight before using it though.

Now we can put on daily Bible verses and quotes as well as ...........this. :)  The boys love it!

If you'd like to try this, the recipe I used was 3 parts paint, 2 parts plaster of paris and 1 part water.  Have fun!
Thanks for dropping by! Have a beautiful day!

Great idea. I have a white board that has seen better days. May just give this a try -- of course, knowing me, it may take a while for me to actually DO something. I tend to have a lot more good intentions than actual energy to get them done!

What a great way to reuse an old whiteboard. I love it! That is my favorite chalk paint recipe. It works great on furniture, too.
